Arthur C. Ross

Arthur Ross was the fourth child of six children born to the union of Edmond and Hattie Ross on December 1, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois. Arthur was a proud Marine, serving his country at the nation’s largest Marine base located in Cherry Point, North Carolina, for three years. Private First Class Ross executed his duties in an exemplarily manner and received an Honorable Discharge at the end of his tour of duty. He continued to faithfully represent the Marine Corps throughout his life and was known to display the flag of United States of America at his residence, in honor of the Corps. After his discharge he met and married the love-of-his-life, Gertrude, affectionately called “Gert” by all. Arthur worked at Ford Motor Company for more than 30 years. Later, after retirement he became self-employed, doing a variety of odd jobs and as a carpenter completing projects mostly for the benefit of close friends and family members. He later united in a marriage to Weader Lynch in August 1984. He was known as an extremely loving grandfather, affectionately called “Papa” by all of his grandkids. He had a unique relationship with each grandchild and his great grandchildren. He was a loving and caring uncle to his niece, Janet Ross. Arthur loved to fish and hunt. He was known to surround himself with exotic trophy mounts. He kept video and photographic records of his major catches and of his numerous fishing and hunting expeditions. He was very enthusiastic about technology, using his skills to master video productions and audio tape transfers and duplications. Arthur lived his life in a quiet nature, he reveled in his role as a “peacekeeper” in family matters and was consulted during disputes between close friends. He knew his way around the kitchen where he prepared daily “down home” cooked meals for his family and tested new recipes’ on family and friends. He was also known for his annual fish frys. On Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 1:28 p.m. at Ingalls Hospital in Harvey, Illinois, Arthur C. Ross fell asleep in death. His parents, Edmond and Hattie; his siblings, John, Lillie Mattie, William (Bill), Edmond Jr. and Jeff; and his first wife Gertrude, all preceded him in death. Arthur leaves to cherish his memory, nephew, William ‘Billy’ Ross Jr.; nieces, Gail Ross and Janet Ross; aunt, Margaret Ross; cousins, Hattie Bland, Myron Ross, Ellen Joyce Ross-Johnson and JoAnn Bridges; grandchildren, Latarsha Wallace-Madison, Myesha Blount, Venus Brown, Carl Lynch, Dominic Lynch, Dion Lynch, Claude Carvell Lynch and Raheem Byas; eleven great grandchildren; and Wendy Byas, Julius Byas and Trina Lynch; a special brother, Clifton Jones; and a host of other relatives and great friends.
