Frank Cecil Barker

Frank Cecil Barker, the beloved son of Theodore C. Barker and Ruth Clark-Barker and third born of ten children, was born April 20, 1935 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas. At the age of 13, Frank accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Ash Grove Baptist Church, in Cotton Plant, AR. He was charming and had a charismatic personality; and he possessed great oratorical prowess, as he had an extraordinary ability to take command of a conversation and to entertain with animated storytelling. He graduated with honors from Cotton Plant Vocational High School, where he was a star athlete in baseball and track and field. His athletic talents facilitated his widespread recognition in numerous competitions throughout the State of Arkansas. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Chicago, Illinois where he met and married his wife, Marie G. Barker. She was indeed the, "apple of his eye". They were united in holy matrimony for over three decades; their union was blessed with seven wonderful children. Frank was a hardworking family man. His steadfast tenure exceeded five decades of exemplary service as an employee with Midway Airport and as a Department Supervisor with United Airlines at O'Hare Airport. He was also an entrepreneur and CEO of his business, where he accommodated various needs throughout the greater Chicago area, including mechanical parts and sales, towing, trucking, and moving services. On the evening of Thursday, June 26, 2014, Frank quietly eased into a peaceful sleep. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Ruth Barker; his three children, Andre Barker, Donovan Barker and Travella Franzetta Barker; three brothers, Hugh Barker, Jessie Barker and Otis Barker; four sisters, Tarlice Dozier, Elma La Pointe, Mattie Fluellen and Vivian Pride-Darrington. Frank is survived by his lovely wife and mother of his children, Marie Green-Barker of Atlanta, GA; his children, Tarlice (Terry) of Atlanta, GA, Tonia (Donald) Moon of Markham, IL, Teresa (Eugene) Harris of South Holland, IL, Tranna Barker of Atlanta, GA and Frank Barker Jr. of Chicago, IL; a second set of children, Marvell Barker, Isaiah Barker and Darlene Barker all of Chicago, IL; his step daughters, Shavon Lyons and Tashika Lyons both of Gary, IN; his brother, Theodore Barker Jr. of Los Angeles, CA; his sister, Franzetta Barker-Callaway of Madison, WI; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Milton LaPointe and Mike Darrington of Los Angeles, CA, Art Fluellen of Battle Creek, MI, Lee Callaway of Madison, WI, Wilmus (Chris) Barker of Chicago, IL, Lonez Barker of Earl, AR and Rosetta Barker of Las Vegas, NV; 27 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
