George Brown Sr.

George Brown Sr. was born on May 29, 1941 in Halsell, Alabama to the union of Judge and Louise Brown. He was the oldest of six children. At the very tender age of eight, George had a keen interest in the Bible. With the assistance of his grandmother he began a life long study of the Bible. Being thoroughly satisfied with the answers to life's most important questions, he dedicated his life to Jehovah and was baptized at the age of 14 on November 24, 1955. During his 61 years of faithful service, George diligently worked hard to help others come to know Jehovah and grow to spiritual maturity. He was ever patient, ever kind, ever loyal. People knew that he had a genuine love for them and for Jehovah. Despite many trials and challenges his zeal for Jehovah never dwindled. For many years he served faithfully as an elder and a regular pioneer, and continued to do so up to the day of his death. During the month prior to his death, George zealously spent 86 hours helping others to learn about Jehovah. On May 22, 1963, George married the love of his life, Gloria Young. Anyone who knew them, knew that they were inseparable. When you saw George, Gloria was not far behind. To this union six children were born. George wanted 12 so he made it halfway. George graduated from Blue Island Community High School and later worked for Reynolds Aluminum Company as an Inspector until his retirement. George was a jack of all trades, though he would readily admit to being a master of none. He was a self-taught carpenter, auto mechanic, landscaper, home remodeler and business entrepreneur. He was also the quote unquote doctor in the family. He truly had a lust for learning. Many would jokingly refer to him as a "walking encyclopedia". He was affectionately referred to as "Boo Mama "because he was a mother/father figure to many. On January 1, 2017, George Brown Sr. fell asleep in death. He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge and Louise Brown; two brothers, Robert Brown Sr. and John Brown Sr.; his wife Gloria Brown. George will be sorely missed. He leaves to cherish his memory, six children: George Jr. (Deborah), Tina Reed (Karl), Tracie Lonzo (David), Gregory, Tisha Needham (Shawn) and Tonya Valdez (Joe); two sisters: Gwendolyn Turner and Cynthia Ross; one brother, William Smith; eight beautiful grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Not to be overlooked is his large spiritual family of brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters.
