Robert A. Walker

Robert A. Walker was born on Mother's Day, May 11, 1956 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Catherine and Robert Sr. He was given the nickname "ROCCO" by one of his beloved uncles when he was a baby. Right from the start Robert was a gentle soul. He was an honor and scholar all throughout his years in school. He was always an exceptional student receiving high honor A+ in school. He graduated Valedictorian of his eighth grade class and the Senior Class Vice President of his high school class. He went on to Columbia College in Chicago and also Washburne Trade School to master Refrigeration Heating and Air Conditioning. Robert was an entreprenuer early on. His first endeavor Lol, was he bought out Seno's tuxedo's inventory and sold them. Everyone in the family had tuxedos. Robert and his then wife Linda, owned a chain of four furniture and appliances stores ranging from 48th and Ashland to 63rd Street in Chicago. Robert had a passion for collecting and selling antiques. He and his brother Darnell would load up two or three 24 ft trucks and go to Antique Shows to sell in places like Florida, Atlanta, also local places like Grays Lake and Kane County just to name a few. Later on because of his love for his collectibles, he ended up being more of a keeper than a seller of his treasures. Robert was a member of St. Luke Church of God in Christ. You could often hear him saying or putting it in writing, I'm "YOUR" child Lord! His best friend who happens to be a pastor, Kirk Jackson, will speak on his behalf and so will Sister Dorothy Gibbs. Robert retired from the United States Postal Service in 2009 with 37 years of service as an OCR Machine Technician. His job allowed him to travel often to stay current with modern technology. Anyone who knew Robert knew he loved his music, gospel was his favorite, especially The Commissioner and Fred Hammond; and he also loved his secular music. He not only could tell you about the song, he would tell you all about the artists, how they got started and why they stopped. He could also do the same with actors or anyone in the public eye. He did his research and he passed that knowledge on to his siblings and his children, always educating us. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine and Robert Sr. Robert leaves to cherish and honor his precious memories, his sister and caregiver, Valerie; brother and protector, Darnell; also all of his Nixon brothers (love you guys); his children, Robert II, Derrick, Tennille, Shanna, Radiance, Jordan and Essence; stepdad, Jimmie Smiley; his lil precious B-Dude (as he would say, "I'm going to tickle you"); and a host of uncles, aunts, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends...he loved and cherished you all. "ROBERT FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT"
