Roosevelt Baker

Roosevelt Cox Baker, Jr. was born on May 26, 1951 to Roosevelt Alexander Baker and Lilla Mae Cox in Chicago, Illinois, where he was a lifelong resident. Roosevelt was always a hard worker, taking up work at the park district in the summer as a teen. As an adult, he was employed by the Chicago Sun-Times for over 25 years and afterwards pursued employment in healthcare that was more conducive to his primary career as a full time minister of Jehovah. Roosevelt also enjoyed playing the piano and teaching his children to take up this lovely art. On May 28, 1983, Roosevelt united in matrimony with Carmel. Their loving union spanned almost 32 years. He cherished very much his wife and children and worked tirelessly to make sure they were provided for both physically and spiritually, even at the sacrifice of his own comforts and desires. In 1985, Roosevelt began studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses and in November 1986 he dedicated his life to Jehovah God and symbolized his dedication by water baptism. He had the privilege and joy of serving as an elder and regular pioneer for many, many years. He lovingly assisted many individuals to get to know the God he knew and loved, Jehovah God. He was so patient, loving and kind, yet firm when it came to Bible standards. On February 20, 2015, Roosevelt fell asleep in death. He was preceded in death by his father, Roosevelt A. Baker and his mother Lilla Mae Cox. Roosevelt leaves to cherish his loving memories, his dear wife, Carmel; his two sisters, Kathryn and Lilla; his four sons, Cedrick and wife LaTrece, Andre and wife Elizabeth, Arick and his wife Mallory and Romone; his only daughter, Rena (Bowie) and husband Christian; six grandchildren, Jasmeena, Sameera, Cory, Cristin, Jayden and Caleb; nephew, Alexdon “Mitch”; grandniece, Alexis; and a host of other relatives and friends. Roosevelt had a huge impact on many people’s lives. Because of this, he will truly be missed by all but especially by his family mentioned above, and a host of other relatives and close friends who look forward to seeing him in the paradise earth that Jesus promised where death and pain will be no more.
