Ada Ballentine

After 100 beautiful years, Ada Louise “Midge” Ballentine passed away peacefully, in the comfort of her own home, in Chicago, on July 14, 2020. Ada was born December 13, 1919 to Ann Baitey and Harvey North in Pulaski, Tennessee where she attended the Public Schools of Pulaski . Ada was united in marriage to Ezra Ballentine on September 6, 1942. After they moved to Chicago in 1948, Ada began her career at Charles A. Stevens in merchandising, where she worked until she retired in 1986. She joined and became a member of Grant Memorial AME Church, in 1955, where she was an active member of the Busy Bee Club. She loved to spend her free time in the kitchen and anyone who knew her could attest to her profound cooking skills, especially known for her pound cakes and dinner rolls. Ada had a contagious laugh and took special joy in all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren! She enjoyed watching the old classic television shows like Andy Griffith and the Three Stooges. From her chair in the kitchen, she would begin her day enjoying a cup of coffee or tea, watching Let’s Make A Deal, and Price Is Right. From her favorite chair in the living room in the evening, she virtually won lots of money and prizes from Wheel of Fortune, and trying her hand with the lottery and being quite successful. During basketball season, you could find her cheering on the Chicago Bulls. Some of her favorite things were Fannie May Pixies; getting flowers; chewing gum; ribs; and a good piece of dessert and ice cream. Ada is further survived and will be truly missed by her three children Carolyn, John, and Edith; her grandchildren Sharon (James Richie), Robert Jr., Paul (Tina), Michael (Montré), Phillip, and Julius; great-grandchildren Latrice, Shaniqua, NaTosha, Christina and Daniah; her great-great-grandchildren Geniah, Gregory and Imari; her sister-in-law Loretta; her special sister cousin Mary Dean; nieces Mildred, Valerie, Debra and Vonnie; nephews Tony, Louis, David and Steve; and a great deal of friends and relatives. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ezra Ballentine, her parents, and her two sisters, Snook and Virginia.
