Ms. Carol Brown

Eugene and Willie Ella gave birth to the eldest of seven children, Carol Brown on June 10, 1949. Being the oldest, she helped with caring for her siblings. Carol received her formal education through the Chicago Public School system. During her senior year, she began her working career with Illinois Bell as a Telephone Operator. She remained there until she retired. After retirement, she decided to work with the Help at Home Agency to fulfill her desire to help others. Carol gave birth to two children whom she loved dearly. Carol cherished the special bond she held with each of her six grandchildren. She found their special gift that touched her deeply. Everyone who knew her also knew, “You better not say anything bad about her grandchildren!” In March 2015, Carol moved into Freedom Village Senior building, where she gained a loving extended family. She participated in many activities that benefited that family. Her most important act of love for them was shown when she joined the Wellness Committee which involved going from door to door checking on the residents. If they were sick, she made them soup and always made sure they had sufficient food to eat. When new tenants moved in, she welcomed them by throwing an ice cream social gathering where they were introduced to those in their new home environment. It brought her much joy, and she will be remembered as being nice and having a bubbly personality. Many valued her outlook on life. Even in her declining health you would hear her say, “I’m not feeling well, but no need to complain.” Carol will truly be missed for her kind heart and giving spirit. There was no one in need that she would not help. Her family and friends will best remember her for her delicious dinners, cookouts and BBQ’s which everyone enjoyed and always looked forward to. On July 12, 2022, Carol fell asleep in death. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Ella and Eugene; one brother Lawrence Brown; and one sister Geneatta Brown. Carol leaves to cherish her memories and continue her legacy, two children Felicia Brown and Duane Brown Sr. (Cereta); six grandchildren Andrea, Jasmine, Wayneesha, De’Marcus, Duane Jr., and Wayniah; four sisters Linda Brown- Sims, Darlene Brown-Rankin, Cornelia L. Brown, and Terry Brown-Pope; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, that will miss her dearly.
