Mrs. Christine Guy

On May 15, 1937, Christine Owens Guy was born to the late Leroy and Wessie Mae Owens in Tylertown, Mississippi. She was the second child of this union. She received her education in Tylertown, Mississippi. In 1955, she met and married the late Walter Guy Jr. and relocated to Chicago, Illinois. To this union was seven children. She worked at the Sweetheart Paper Cup Company. Her next home of employment was Stewart & Warner (making car parts), followed by her very own family business Guy’s Eats & Sweets during the 70s. In the 80s, her employment would pick back up at Grey Cell Nursing Home of Chicago. Her most enjoyable job was during the early 90s where she worked at Remer’s Record Shop as a sales clerk. This was a family owned business by Eldee Lee in Maywood. There, she would often meet her artists and groups such Earth, Wind and Fire, Gap Band, Luther Vandross, The O’Jays and many more. She enjoyed her music, and wher favorites were Aretha Franklin, Shirley Caesar, and BB King just to name a few. In 1992, due to her daughter’s illness, she would retire from working, to assist in raising her daughters’ children. After her retirement, she began raising her grandchildren and would migrate to Franklinton, Louisiana and then later back to her hometown Tylertown, Mississippi. In 2013, she moved to Clara Ward Senior Apartments in Robbins, Illinois to be closer to her children. Three years later, she would return to Chicago to live with her daughter Janice Guy and finally with her son Larry Guy. Christine enjoyed attending family functions, going to bingo, the casino, and traveling. Christine was a 40 year Breast Cancer Survivor. She was a caring worker. Loved by everyone that met her. She had the most beautiful smile. She was a wonderful mother and wife, and the best sister and aunt in the universe. She was baptized at an early age at Mount Olive in Sandy Hook, Mississippi. In 1955, during her marriage to Walter Guy Jr., she joined Fellowship Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Clay Evans. In 1968, she joined the Church Without A Spot or Wrinkle in Chicago, under the late Rev. C. Odom. Her final fellowship would be under her granddaughter Pastor Sheta Johnson of Delightful Living Ministries. Christine was preceded in death by her two s as isters and their husbands Essie Lee and Carmel Weary, Ella Weise and EB Bogan, Rochelle Weary, her brother-in-laws Jimmel Brown, James and Inez Guy, Wallace Guy and WA Gu, two daughters Valerie Yvonne Smith and Angela Denise Guy, two son-in-law’s Terry Sardin and Allonzo Sloan, one daughter-in-law Tracy Guy, one niece Louise Pruitt, one granddaughter Annell Coulter Walker. Christine leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters Annie (John) Coulter, Janice Guy, and Lisa Sardin; two sons, Larry Guy and Royce (Sheryl) Guy; one sister-in-law Daisylean Guy in Foxworth, Mississippi; one sister, JoeFaye Brown Warren of Sandy Hook, Mississippi, twenty grandchildren Jamson (Shanel) Coulter, Nisan (Sharon) Wilson, She-ta (Stanley) Johnson, Ben-ta (Leslie) Coulter, John Coulter III, Jewel Coulter, Ronald Guy, Lisa Rodgers, Kimberly (Dreco) Slocum, Charles Guy, Parker Guy Miller, Angelica Bates, John Bates, Shanice Sardin, Terry Sardin Jr., Antoinette Guy, Christceda Guy, Christopher Guy, Brian Guy, and Royce Guy Jr.; fifty-three great-grandchildren, over twenty-one great-great grandchildren, a host of friends, family and her best friend Henrette Lee.
