David Boughton

The Spiritual Man David Boughton was born June 27, 1923 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Jimmie and Lula Boughton. He was the eleventh of twelve children. David Boughton was baptized in 1947. He has served Jehovah faithfully for over 65 years. David always tried to display the fruitage of God’s spirit, such as love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness and self control (Galatians 5:22, 23). David was determined to serve faithfully in his God given assignment to preach and make disciples as a Regular Pioneer from August 1988 until now, which is over 24 years. He conducted many Bible studies with people who were interested in learning about the Bible. As a result, many dedicated their lives to Jehovah through water baptism. Also, he encouraged many pioneers to stay in the pioneer service, so that, they would qualify to serve at Bethel, or as Circuit Overseers though his self-sacrificing spirit. David’s statement to all of Jehovah’s servants young and old, “Stick with Jehovah, never leave him. He is the best and only true friend that you will ever have in this system” (Proverb 18:24). Many were often entertained by the highlights of his many years serving Jehovah, such as, his attendance at the 1958 District Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses, held at Yankee Stadium in New York and the time he attended Kingdom Ministry School for the first time in 1968. Also, in New York on June 23, 2008, School of Congregation Elders. His first time attending pioneer school was in 1989 and the second time in 2006. At the District Conventions, David volunteered as a cook, over forty (40) years, he worked long and hard to prepare breakfast, lunch and supper for the attendees. These conventions lasted eight days! David Boughton was a Beacon to his family and friends. He not only loved his family and cared for their spiritual interests he also cared for spiritual interests of others. As a Coordinator and Congregation Elder, many came to appreciate his knowledge of the scriptures, teaching, generosity and hospitality. On Sunday, December 9, 2012, David Boughton fell asleep in death. He was preceded in death by one son, David. His thirst and enthusiasm for the truth and all things spiritual, is sure to be remembered by our loving God, Jehovah, who is the God of the living. David leaves to cherish is loving memories, his faithful wife of nearly 45 years, Earlie Mae Boughton; four children, Nobert (Georgia), Christine Curtis, Bobby (Cecelia) and Tedra (Debbie) Sanders; one brother, Sylvester Brooks; and an affectionate host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Luke 20:38 he is a God not of the dead, but of the living, for they are all living to him.
