Doris Marie Johnson

Doris Marie Johnson was born January 25, 1924 in Memphis, Tennessee to Henrietta McMillian. She was the oldest of eight children. She was the "big sister" who was looked up to and deeply loved by her siblings. In 1951, Doris moved her family to Chicago, Illinois. In1954, she met Frank Johnson they became a three fold cord not easily broken. Family was very important to Doris, she was not only an excellent wife and mother but an outstanding grandmother and aunt. She was extremely playful riding bikes, wrestling, and playing tag...she always won. Grandma was always there to provide love and support and the best meals ever. Doris' love of God led her to study the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses and after a thorough study of the scriptures, she dedicated her life to Jehovah and symbolized her dedication through water baptism. Doris was known for always being at the meetings and always being on time. Even as her health was declining she was still actively pursuing the admonition of Matthew 28:19-20 and would sit in the park with her husband Frank and witness to all who came near. Jackson Park was her congregation and she loved the friends and eagerly welcomed everyone to her home. The circuit overseerer and his wife were expected to sit at Doris and Frank's table and dine on fine china while eating delicious food. If you knew Doris you knew she had a green thumb, she would say to folks who asked, "I don't grow plastic. She was able to plant the flowers at the Kingdom Hall she attended. She was a sharp dresser...clothes, shoes, purse, jewelry...all had to match when she walked out the door. Frank and Doris loved to travel. They were up and down the road from Chicago to St. Louis...Mississippi to Florida, grabbing grandchildren, nieces and nephews for a family road trip in the van. On August 19, 2015, Doris Marie Johnson fell asleep in death. Her family looks forward to welcoming her back to the paradise earth promised at Isaiah 25:8, where no resident will say, "I am sick". Doris leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband, Frank; son, James Evans; daughter, Sandra Jamison-Jones; sister, Alice McCastle; grandchildren, Mia Jamison, Risha Jamison, Joel Jones and Leah Jones; five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
