Emma L. Maggiefield

Emma L. Maggiefield was born on November 11, 1941 to John and Mary (fondly called “Rabbit”) McDavid in Metcalfe, Mississippi. Upon her mother’s death in 1953, Emma and her siblings were lovingly raised and cared for by her maternal grandmother, Emma Sawyer. Emma studied Home Economics and Etiquette and graduated from Coleman High School. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Maggiefield on January 16, 1964. They then moved to Chicago, Illinois where she enjoyed secular work at Spiegel and later at Billings Hospital. During this time she also loving cared for the needs of her children and husband. After a careful study of God’s word the Bible, Emma symbolized her dedication through water baptism becoming one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on April 4, 1971. In 1984 her aspirations of becoming a teacher was satisfied as she began serving as a regular pioneer and had the privilege to teach and study the Bible with several individuals and watch as they dedicated their lives to Jehovah. She will always be remembered for her love of Jehovah, her zeal in the door to door field ministry and her passion for early morning street witnessing. Emma was very fond of the young ones within the congregation and invited them over for home-made pizza parties and “cookie bakes”. To make the “culinary” experience complete she lovingly made chef hats and aprons for all. Those who know her well remember her love of dancing, music, family vacations, Shipley donuts and hot tamales from 8th Street in Greenville, Mississippi. Not to be forgotten are her many “colorful” facial expressions. Through her many health challenges she was a happy loving wife, mother and grandmother; a beautiful example of Christian kindness and hospitality to all who knew her. In the early morning hour of Monday, August 10, 2015, Emma fell asleep in death. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Emma; parents, John and Mary; and two brothers, Willie and Albert. Emma leaves to cherish her memories and continue her legacy, her husband, Lawrence; her children, Tonya, Vanessa, and Michelle; son-in-law, Brian Mulenga; her grandchildren, Tiara and Aimee; great granddaughter, Peyton; her siblings, Evelyn Little, John and Anthony McDavid; her aunts Virginia McDavid and Susie Dillard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
