Frankie Brewton

Frankie S. Brewton, affectionately known as Gran, was born on April 3, 1926 in Birmingham, Alabama to the union of Frank and Emma Sweeting. She was the fourth of six siblings. Her genuine love for Jehovah, and the valuable spiritual legacy left by her mother affectionately called "Dear", moved her to symbolize her dedication by water baptism in July of 1958 in New York. Her love for people, firm faith and devotion to Jehovah moved her to make serving him a priority as she served as a regular pioneer for many years until she was unable to continue. This privilege of service truly made her happy, and she was an excellent teacher of Bible truths and assisted many to dedication and baptism. In 1979, she married the love of her life, Ogean Brewton, as they shared 24 amazing years in love until his death in 2003. Their deep love for one another set a beautiful example for others and resulted in the couple being spiritual mentors for so many in this Christian Congregation. Gran was known for baking delicious and beautiful cakes. She also had a genuine concern for the health and wellness of anyone in need. Gran truly believed in Acts 20:35, "There is more happiness in giving then there is in receiving." At the end of her life, her faith in Jehovah's promise for the hope of the resurrection strongly evident when she would say to her loved ones "When I wake up…I'll be looking for all of you." When made aware of her failing health she made the decision to move to Texas to be with her loving children. Although she always considered Chicago as her home, Gran was 90 years of age when she fell asleep and death in Houston, Texas on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 6:14 a.m. Gran leaves to cherish her valuable memories, her daughters, Carmen Evans, Ingrid (Earnest) Connie Bryant and Velma Patrick; son, Walter (Charlotte); grandchildren, Darren, Erica (Bill), Angie, Jerry (Sherry), Anwar, Dotti (Jeff), Carlton and Carla (Mike); great-grandchildren, Chelsey (Keenan), Imani (Jaloni), Tricia, Eric, Brandon, Mia, Lia, Aniya, Karrington, Logan and Jarrad; great-great grandsons, Xavier and Kaleb; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, relatives, dear friend, Evelyn Jones; and many others.
