Mrs. Gertrude Payne

Gertrude Payne was born on August 3, 1936, to Johnnie S. Burton and Charlie T. Burton in Clarksdale, MS. She received her formal education in Clarksdale, MS. She met and married John C. Payne Sr. and together they moved to Chicago, IL in the early 60’s, where she continued to help raise her family. She was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother but always demanded respect and enjoyed caring for her family. She also enjoyed fishing, traveling, dancing while listening to blues music and playing cards. Gertrude worked at Nestl’e Candy Company for 38 years then retired in 2000. Her love of God and the Bible led her to study with Jehovah’s Witnesses. She dedicated her life to Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized as a Jehovah’s witness on July 15, 1989. She enjoyed teaching and preaching to all her family, friends and all she met about her Jehovah God and the truth about the Bible. She served as a regular pioneer a fulltime minister of the good news of God’s kingdom. On March 2, 2023, Gertrude Payne fell asleep in death. She was preceded in death by her husband; John C. Payne Sr.; her parents Johnnie S. Burton and Charlie T. Burton; her four daughters Linda Payne, Gwendolyn McKay, Venus Payne and Sabrina Payne; Her two sisters Fannie Lee Johnson and Lillbelle Burton; her five brothers Tyrone Burton, Sherman Briggs, Jimmy Briggs, Johnny Burton, Richard Burton; two grandson’s Mark Young and Ernest Franklin and other Aunts, Uncle and Cousins. Gertrude Payne leaves to cherish her memories, her three daughters Erma Payne ( James) of Ft. Wayne, IN; Lillian Coleman (Willie) of Rena Lara, MS and Pearline Newwell (Willie) of Clarksdale, MS; three sons; John C. Payne Jr. of Gary, IN and Darryl Payne of Peoria, IL and Dr. Hernando Payne of Greenville, MS; a son-in-law Jerome Franklin of Chicago, IL; two brothers Danny Burton of Melrose Pk, IL and Leroy Burton of Harvey, IL; five sisters Johnny Ruth of Houston, TX; Rosie Crowell of Clarkdale, MS; Diana Terrell of Maywood, IL; Louise Hicks of Memphis; Mae France Ratliff of Forest Park, IL and 19 grandkids, 65 great grandkids and 15 great great grandkids and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins family and friend
