Gwinnetta Washington

Gwinnetta Washington was born on February 6, 1939 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was one of five children to the union of Jewell Evelyn Smith and Willie Smith. Gwinnetta’s early childhood began in Chicago, Illinois where she attended Willard Elementary School. After graduating she received her diploma from DuSable High School, where she was affectionately called, Gwenie. She graduated from Cleo Johnson School of Charm and Modeling and went on to model professionally. Gwinnetta was united in holy matrimony to Charles Washington in 1956. This love blossomed and she later gave birth to two beautiful daughters. Gwinnetta dedicated her life to Jehovah God and symbolized her dedication through water baptism in 1976. She continued in her service to Jehovah, preaching and declaring the good news of God’s Kingdom. She truly loved God’s word and when she could no longer see the printed pages of the Bible, she listened to her recordings. One of Mom’s favorite Bible verses was 2 Corinthians 4:16, “Therefore, we do not give up, but even if the man we are outside is wasting away, certainly the man we are inside is being renewed from day to day.” Her greatest wish and joy was to see all of her family serving Jehovah God faithfully. She remained a faithful servant of Jehovah for over 38 years. Gwinnetta will be warmly remembered for her generous nature, encouraging words of wisdom, hospitality and a sincere love shown to all. She was a woman clothed in strength and dignity. Although she bravely battled several chronic illnesses her entire life, she was determined to show love and compassion to other sick ones. Gwinnetta was recognized for her willingness to assist others in their time of need. On March 28, 2014, Gwinnetta was overcome from her illness during her sleep. Preceding her in death were her mother, Jewell Evelyn Smith; her father, Willie Smith; two sisters, Kay Francis Brannon and Valerie Roseann Smith; two great grandchildren, Morriah Taylor and Javion Miles; two nephews, William Smith II and Damond Smith; and one great nephew, Joelle Creasy. Gwinnetta leaves to cherish her memories and continue her legacy, her two daughters, Sherrie Jewell Miles (Gregory) and Arnetta Kay Freeman (Marvin); her brother, William Smith (Ina); her sister, Jewell Woodson (David); six grandchildren, Tanisha (Karl Sr.), Taria (Richard), Teyonna, Gregory, Paris and Justin; eight great grandchildren, Karl, Khari, Tayah, Rishard, Morris, Khloe, Jaebrel and Jeremiah; a very special niece, Nicole Riley (Emil) who lovingly cared for her during her final days; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
