Helen Jean Powell

Helen Jean Powell was the second eldest child born to Emma Lee Saulsberry and R.C. Horton on August 28, 1951 in Sumner, Mississippi. Helen graduated from West District High School in Sumner, MS. She continued her education by enrolling and attending Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, MS. Months later, she bonded in matrimony to her high school sweetheart Charles H. Powell. A union that has proven to stand for 47 years. After moving from her birth home, Helen found employment as an Instrumentation and Service Parts Specialist at Stewart Warner in Chicago, Illinois. A position she maintained for well over 20 years. Soon after, Helen labored as a Records Clerk at Beacon in Chicago until her retirement. Helen could be easily recognized as the most kindest and sweetest woman in the world. Throughout her life, she found her way to give assistance to those in need of help. Whether it was physically when she offered the nurses aid in her own care or spiritually when she offered herself willingly in Jehovah's theocratic service. Subsequent to a study of God's word, Helen dedicated her life to Jehovah and symbolized her dedication through water baptism on June 18, 1981, becoming one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She loved the kingdom ministry and found serenity in the resurrection hope that Jesus Christ promised in the Bible. In the afternoon of January 23, 2017, Helen fell asleep in death at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center's VITAS Hospice Care Unit in Chicago, IL. Her brother, James Saulsberry and her mother, Emma Lee Saulsberry both preceded her in death. Cherishing Helen's memories are, her loving husband, Charles H. Powell; their five caring children, LaCharles Powell, Eric Powell (Brittney), Duriel Powell, Kelvin Ryne Powell, Tamara Powell and his child Yolanda Drew; her five affectionate siblings, Pauline Banks (Michael) , Aubrey Saulsberry, Linda Saulsberry, Kathleen Saulsberry-Finister (Gregory) and Doris Saulsberry; her fond brother-in-law, William E. Powell; her dearest father, R.C. Horton; her four adoring grandchildren, Elkharia, Malaysia, Elysia, Talayah and his grandchildren, Andre and Rhonnie; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends.
