Joan Moore

Joan Yvonne Glover-Moore a woman of grace and resilience peacefully passed away on May 23, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at the hospital . Her life was a testament to strength, love, and the bonds of family. Born January 9, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois. Joan brought joy and warmth to those around her. She was the beloved daughter of Sueberta Lee Sledge and Waddell Steel. Her mother’s values of integrity and compassion shaped her character. Joan’s journey of love led her to unite in marriage with Elbert Moore Jr., in 1965. Together they embarked on a life filled with shared dreams and cherished moments During this chapter of her life, Joan welcomed the birth of their precious daughter Latricia Yvonne Moore, in 1967. Joan embraced the role of motherhood with all her heart, nurturing and guiding Latricia with unwavering love and support. Joan’s pursuit of knowledge and education was a cornerstone of her life. She attended Washington Elementary School in Maywood, Illinois, and graduated from Du Sable High School in Chicago. She received a degree in primary education from Chicago State University in 1978. Joan’s passion for teaching led her to dedicate over 2 decades of her career to the field of education in the Chicago Public School system. Her impact on the lives of countless young minds was immeasurable, she inspired her students to reach for their dreams with determination and perseverance. Joan found joy in various hobbies and interest. She possessed a remarkable talent for cooking delighting family and friends with her dishes. She won a receipt contest for Kraft. Joan had a sharp mind and enjoyed the challenge of solving puzzles. She had a special fondness for collecting elephants, symbolizing strength, and wisdom which reminded her of her own resilience. Joan was an active member of The Congregational Church of Park Manor UCC. Her faith was an essential part of her life. Family was the cornerstone of Joans life. She loved being a mother to Latricia and grandmother to Tempest. Her granddaughter Tempest Yvonne Young (Temp), brought immeasurable happiness to Joan’s life, and their bond was filled with love, happiness and cherished memories. Together, the trio shared precious moments, created lasting traditions, and celebrated the beauty of family. In later years, Joan embarked on a new chapter of her life. Even in her 80’s Joan continued to embrace new experiences, engaged in exciting activities and found joy in the simple pleasures. Her adventurous spirit and positive outlook served as an inspiration to all who knew her.
