Joyce Pepper

Joyce Loretta Pepper was born on August 7, 1939 to the union of Henry and Joyce Johnson. Joyce was from Englewood, the southside of Chicago. She graduated from Chicago Vocational High School in 1958. She married her high school sweetheart Phillip Pepper in 1959 and from this union three children were born Melissa, Phyllis, and Phillip Jr. Joyce worked 20 years as a government employee. She made sure family values and morals were the principalities to her children’s upbringing in life. Joyce accepted Christ and lived for the Lord. No matter how difficult life might have been, she always put her trust in the Lord and her faith. She had a radiant glow about her that brought joy and happiness to everyone she talked to. Her persona and smile was so inviting she gave you a TODAY or DAILY BREAD you had to take before your conversation was over, doing the Lord’s work. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Joyce Johnson and also her granddaughter Raehel Austin. Left with heartfelt and warm memories, her children Melissa Pepper-Williams, Phyllis Pepper and Phillip E. Pepper Jr.; her grandchildren Antoine Trimuel, Trinity Pepper, Phillip O. Pepper; and great grandchildren Tyler Trimuel and Aiyden Trimuel. Also a host of other family members and friends that knew her. I lost the most amazing woman that I’ve ever known to a better man. I thank God for taking care of her because her job is done. It was a glorious ride mom, and I am forever thankful for our journey. Until we meet again. I love you so much. My last words to you, it’s not goodbye but see you later. Your son Phillip E. Pepper Jr. As your first born I reflect back on things we have discussed. You informed me recently the most important thing to remember in life is “To love people the way God loves! Life is about sharing God‘s love.” St. John 3:16, For God so loved the world that God gave his only begotten son (Jesus), that whosoever believeth in Jesus should not perish, but have everlasting life. You have taught me about being respectful going and the main thing the Lord, which I got baptized in 2017. While you were on your deathbed, I did your hair and asked you are you ready, you said yes and I don’t know what he’s doing flying all around the world, he needs to stop here and get me. He did come get you on May 13, 2020. I will always admire your strength even facing death. Your spirit never wavered from God and you still smiled and laughed. Romans 14:7, 8 Missing you mom, your daughter Phyllis Joyce Pepper was not just my grandma she was a praying grandma. I was blessed to be under her tutelage. She was more than a mentor, provider, and disciplinarian, but more importantly she was a woman of faith who believed in the Lord and his teachings. She focused on simple principles like be kind, be helpful, and be loving to others as well as yourself. Remember to have no fear and most importantly read your Bible, pray, and always trust in God.
