Kenneth Powell

Kenneth Powell was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 10, 1962 to Doristine Powell and Ike Powell II. Kenneth graduated from St. Ethelreda Grammar School in 1976 and Chicago Vocational High School (CVS) in 1980. Over the years, Kenneth worked in various positions, from a cook at McDonalds to working at Fastex (Division of Illinois Tool Works), where he worked as a Machinist for 25 years from 1980-2005. Kenneth united in holy matrimony to Kimberly Powell in 1987 and enjoyed over 28 years of loyal and precious years together. Kenneth and Kimberly enjoyed football games, dancing, family gatherings and they traveled extensively throughout the Continental United States while faithfully serving Jehovah. After a study of the Bible, Kenneth dedicated his life to Jehovah and symbolized his dedication through water baptism in April 1985. He attended the Cottage Grove Congregation for many years and was an Elder from 1995 until his health failed. Kenneth's life was committed to service and his passionate love and care for people. Ken became a regular pioneer and attended the pioneer school twice. He conducted home Bible studies while working in assigned and seldom-worked territory with the group, shepherding, listening, teaching both one-on-one and before the congregation. He often quoted Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, And do not rely on your own understanding. In all your ways take notice of him, And he will make your paths straight. On July 19, 2015, Kenneth fell asleep in death after several years of failing health. Kenneth fought to the end and trusted in Jehovah. He was preceded in death by his father, Ike Powell II; and his grandparents, Ike and Lola Powell and John and Rose Taylor. Kenneth leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 28 years, Kimberly Powell; mother, Doristine Powell; five siblings, Theresa Gosha (Dorian), Ike Powell III (Roslynn), Darrell Powell Sr., Debra Furlough and Angela Randle (James); two aunts, Rev. Florentine Taylor and Loretta Powell; one uncle, Dr. Michael Toney; two nieces, Dr. Mikyra James and Nicole Powell; four nephews, Michael Rashan Toney, Rex Furlough Jr., Pierre Powell and Darrell Powell Jr.; and a host of cousins, other relatives and countless friends. Kenneth, I will miss you very much and will see you in God's new world...Your loving wife, Kim - Revelation 21:3-4, With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: "Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."
