Laura Harris

Laura Williams was born on the south side of Chicago on August 14, 1932, to Cora and Willie Williams Sr. She was one of seven children. She was joined in marriage in 1950 to Henry Lee and raised four children. In 1999, she joined in marriage to Alfred Harris. She was loved and respected by many and was affectionately called “Muh” by her immediate family. Laura worked at Mercy Hospital for many years as a Cashier, and held other responsibilities before retiring on August 14, 1998. Laura dedicated her life to Jehovah God and symbolized her dedication by water baptism on February 15, 1972. As a member of the Damen Park Congregation, Laura set an excellent example of faithfulness, determination and loyalty to Jehovah. She became a regular pioneer in 2011, until her health prevented her from continuing. She loved the ministry and was eager to help others come to know Jehovah God. Muh, was very compassionate and many times put the interest of others ahead of her own. If you were hungry, she made sure you were well fed and satisfied. She cared a great deal about people and took time out to care for their particular needs. She loved meatloaf, pastas and spicy foods. Most of all she was vibrant, energetic and had a bubbly personality, for which we will always cherish. She kept a sense of humor even while she was in hospice. Everywhere she went Laura made friends. She enjoyed fishing. She loved life which is why she was attached to her pets; Kody the dog, Nicky the cat, Jewel the cat, Sam the dog; birds and fishes. She said they calmed her. She enjoyed sharing her home with them, as well as family and friends. She will truly be missed by all. To her family, Laura was the strongest woman we know. She fought to live, but she loved Jehovah and fully trusted in Him to preserve her in his memory. We long to see “Muh” again in the resurrection. On Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 9:17 a.m., Laura fell asleep in death at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cora and Willie Williams Sr.; in 2006, her husband, Henry Lee; her dog, Kody; and one son, Michael. Laura leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Alfred Harris; three children, Henry, Henrietta and Dexter; twelve grandchildren, Andre, Dwayne, Ebony, Mateo, Michelle, L’oreal, Nicole, Sterling, Mark, Erin, Brandon and Christopher; great grandchildren; two brothers, Wilbur Williams and Willie Williams Jr.; four sisters, Maryam (Jean) Burnette, Dolores (Tina) Gunn, Dorothy Wilkerson and Diana Darden; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a large spiritual family who deeply loved her.
