Mr. Leonard Mohead

Leonard Mohead, Jr. was born in Carroll County, Mississippi to Janie and Leonard Mohead, Sr. on October 16, 1934. The family moved to Chicago in 1953. Leonard graduated from DuSable High School and spent four years in naval aviation. He then worked for 10 years at the US Post Office. Leonard started a successful business in floor care and carpet cleaning in 1980 and maintained it for 20 years. Leonard’s Life really began when he met his dear wife Beverly in 1965. After a whirlwind relationship they were married on April 23, 1966. Beverly started studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses and on June 19, 1966 she dedicated her life to Jehovah. Leonard noticed how the Truth was changing her life and he started a study which led to his baptism on January 3, 1969. However, Beverly was not able to attend his baptism because she gave birth to Sarah just two days earlier but she was there with him in spirit. Leonard deeply loved the Truth, he served as an elder in the Southtown and Beverly congregations. He became a regular pioneer in 2007. He and Beverly were pioneer partners, and served well together on Bible studies, door-to-door witnessing and in Metropolitan Witnessing. They were always together in the preaching work. His love for Jehovah and Jesus was always manifested in the way he talked to the friends. He was very approachable and kind in dealing with people, he had many spiritual sons and daughters. He was known for calling every sister “dear” and every young man “son”. He loved his children... Kimberly, Sarah, Stephen and Elaina. They were always in his prayers and his hope was to see them in the New World. Leonard had a very humorous side, he loved to laugh and even after laughing so loud he would cry. He loved to play bid whist and bowl, he also loved to watch golf on TV although he never played it. Leonard leaves behind to cherish his memory: his dear wife Beverly, his four children, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, one son-in-law Marlon (Sarah), one grandson Lamar (Ashley) who were like sons to him, his special friend Dwaine Freeman and many, many relatives and brothers and sisters worldwide whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Leonard and Janie Mohead, his brother Allen Ray Mohead, his grandson Darieus Leonard Mohead, and his great granddaughter Mya Stith.
