Margaret Frazier

Margaret Frazier was born to Anne Gartrell and Alonzo Frazier on January 15, 1922 in Washington, Georgia. Early in her life and shortly after her mother's death she was sent to her uncle George and his wife Remanda Gartrell in Chicago, Illinois where she was raised with their two daughters, Mildred and Elizabeth. She attended Forestville Grade School and DuSable High School. Margaret worked as a healthcare provider for the state of Illinois in her later years and retired. Margaret faithfully attended church at 1st Church of Deliverance in Chicago. She would travel great distances from her Park Forest home on public transportation to attend church services almost every Sunday. She then would return home just in time to listen to her favorite Sunday night radio broadcast by her cousin Jerome Chambers from 1st Church of Deliverance...with a cold Pepsi, one of her little life pleasures. She also really enjoyed gospel music. Thriving on very little and hardly ever asking for help, Margaret was independent and proud of it. She lead a quiet, modest yet comfortable lifestyle. Margaret was affiliated with the Elks Club and engaged in community service for seniors. Margaret gave birth to three boys and one girl. Margaret was an outstanding example of faithfulness, warmth and kindness. She was quiet and sweet as can be but like in the James Brown song "...mama didn't take no mess..." Margarets's favorite Bible scripture was Ezekiel 34:26 "...Blessings will pour down like the rains." We look forward to seeing her when she is resurrected to a paradise earth. On February 2, 2015, Margaret fell asleep in death. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her brother, Harold Shank of Columbus, OH; her sister, Lois Rice of NJ; her guardian aunt and uncle, George and Remanda Gartrell; and her cousins/sisters, Mildred Broughton and Elizabeth Ray. Margaret leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, Orestes and Lionel Frazier; her daughter, Sabrina Rice; her niece and nephews, Arthur Shank, Patricia Reed, and Gregory and Glenn Ray; and a host of friends and relatives. Margaret was especially fond of the MacElroy Family Reunion Clubs across the country.
