Margaret B. Matthews

Margaret, also known as Marty, was born on June 1st, 1944 in Council Bluff, Iowa to Harold T. Matthews and Essie B. Jack. Margaret relocated to Ogden, Utah where she graduated from Ogden High School in 1962. She continued her education at Weber State Junior College also in Ogden, UT while earning a certificate in Secretarial Training. Shortly after, Margaret welcomed her first child, Troy M. Matthews, on June 12th, 1963 before relocating to Chicago, Illinois. After moving to Chicago, IL in 1963, Margaret began working for a host of companies such as, Solomon Brothers, Seaway National Bank, and The University of Chicago before venturing out on her own in Real Estate in the 1980’s under the leadership of Joseph H. Timmons. Matthews Realty and Associates was born in the 1990’s where she excelled as a successful Property Management Broker before retiring years later to battle Multiple Sclerosis. During this period of time, she welcomed her second child, Tracy M. Matthews on September 8th, 1973. Both of her children remember their mother as a stern, hard-working, strong-willed, and dedicated mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals and always “make your best--Better”. Margaret was accomplished and specialized at hosting and making others feel welcomed in her presence. An example of her many talents and skills were “Fish Fry Fridays”, “Backyard Barbeques” and “Basement Parties”. Marty lived life to the fullest and encouraged others to do the same. She was an avid music lover with an extensive record collection. Much of her joy came from watching her favorite TV show "Jeopardy" and gardening in the backyard and showcasing her many stylish hats. Margaret was a devoted believer who loved Jehovah GOD and served as an active participant of the Jehovah Witness faith for many years. Surrounded in love with her family and friends, Margaret B. Matthews fell asleep in death peacefully in Chicago, IL on June 2nd, 2016 at the age of 72 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents. Margaret is survived by her children: Troy Matthews and Tracy Dunbar; siblings: Michael Reed and Harold T. Matthews Jr. She also is survived by three grandchildren: Tatiana Dunbar, Jeremiah Lofton, and Jaelyn Dunbar; along with a myriad of extended family, close friends, and loved ones.
