Marie Antoinette Cook

A Time to be Born Marie Antoinette Cook was born November 21, 1930 to the union of George Harris and Anna Dawson Harris of Magnolia, Mississippi. She was the first of five children. Her father and mother preceded her in death. At an early age, she was baptized at Pleasant Spring Baptist Church and was very active in the Youth Programs of the church. A Time to Change Marie attended Richard Elementary School and Magnolia Agriculture High School in Magnolia, Mississippi. After graduating from high school, Marie attended Jackson College for a short period of time. In 1948, Marie was joined in holy matrimony to William Cook. To this union was born one child, Ronald Eugene Cook. Shortly after marriage, William and Marie moved to Chicago, Illinois. A Time to Work After moving to Chicago, Marie was determined to return back to school. She immediately enrolled in Nursing School in which she graduated with honors. She joined the Mercy Hospital Nursing Staff immediately after graduation. Marie worked at Mercy Hospital for a number of years. In 1963, she joined the nursing staff at Weiss Memorial Hospital. Still not completely satisfied with her education, Marie enrolled in school for Radiology. After graduating in Radiology, she joined the University of Chicago Radiology Department. It did not take her long before she was appointed Department Supervisor. A Time to Love Marie joined Merrill Avenue Baptist Church and remained a regular member until her health began to fail with Alzheimer’s disease. Marie was the World Traveler in the family. Her travels took her to most of the southern islands as well Europe and Asia. Marie was also the “cook” in the family. Cooking was her passion and she loved looking for new and different recipes to prepare. Marie was the “mouth” in the family. We would always say, she was the smallest in the family with the “biggest mouth”. She always found ways to make and keep the family laughing. A Time to Cherish Leaving to cherish her loving memories, husband, William Cook; son, Ronald Eugene Cook (Lynnette); grandchildren, Ronald Cook, Jr. and Tanisha Cook; great grandchildren, Darius Jackson and Tori Jackson; sisters, Johnnie (Roland) Winn and Elnora Downs; brothers, Melvin (Minnie) Harris and Floyd Harris; brothers-in-law, Charles (Delores) Cook and Calvin (Lula) Cook; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
