Mrs. Murriel Foreman

MURRIEL LAVERNE FOREMAN was born the second of three children on September 18, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, to the proud union of Jessie Henderson and Freddie Henderson. On January 10, 1950, Murriel was united in marriage to Lester Foreman whom she shared her life with for nearly 60 years. Together Les and Murriel raised 7 children Kenneth, Iris, David, Doris, Theodore Lester, Jr., Vern, and Corey. Murriel was dedicated as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and symbolized her dedication and baptism July 22, 1953, at the International Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses in New York. Murriel was a dedicated wife and mother but most importantly she served as a full-time Pioneer for over 21 years. In addition, after raising her children, Murriel achieved her Associates in Arts Degree at Thornton Community College in 1980 and Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Governor’s State University in 1983. After graduating from Governor’s State University, she became a teacher in the public school system for several years. Murriel was affectionately known to her family and siblings as “Sistababy” and “Auntie Murl” and to her spiritual family as “Mama Foreman”. Murriel was devoted to her Christian Ministry as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses (her main joy in life for over 60 years) next to being a homemaker and mother to her children. She also enjoyed sitting in the “sun” and was often seen sitting on her front porch enjoying the sunshine and fresh air as well as sitting in the sun in outside seating at Jehovah’s Witnesses Conventions whenever the opportunity presented itself. She also enjoyed shopping at resale shops and watching her favorite TV programs Matlock and Perry Mason. And when asked by her friends if they could bring her something to eat – she would always respond “I like Greens & Cornbread.” As a younger woman, she was very active and energetic and enjoyed walking, swimming, and bicycling. She was a very “generous” person to all her family and peers and would do anything to provide assistance when needed. She truly loved her family and relatives and would travel to visit them often. Sadly, Murriel fell asleep in death on September 7, 2022. She is preceded in death by her father, Jessie Henderson, mother, Freddie (Jones) Henderson, brother, Jessie Henderson Jr, one sister Doris Underdown, one daughter, Iris Crenshaw-Johnson, and one son Kenneth Scrutchions. She is survived by her four sons: David (Barbara) Foreman, Theodore Lester, Jr. (Amy) Foreman, Vern (Audrey) Foreman, Corey (Anna) Foreman and one daughter Doris (Larry) Tanner, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and dear friends. Murriel will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. She will always be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and her faithful service to Jehovah. She looked forward to the promise at Job 14:15 “You will call, and I will answer...” Murriel loved her sons and daughters-in-laws whom she affectionately called Audrey, Anna and Amy her 3-A’s, and Barbara and Ethel. Murriel had a “a very special fondness” for her two daughters “Tyn” (Iris) and “Dodie” (Doris). Many who knew Murriel will always remember, one of her favorite sayings: “GOOD, GOOD, GOOD” !!
