Shirley Ann McCullough

Shirley Ann McCullough was born July 28, 1949 in Kennett, Missouri to the parents of Mary Ethel Turner and Jessie Young. Shirley grew up in Kennett, MO and moved to Chicago, Illinois at a young age. She attended Cornell Grammar School and graduated in 1963. She went on to attend Hirsch High School and graduated in 1967. At an early age, Shirley professed Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized. She joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she was also a member of the choir. On November 22, 1969, Shirley married Mitchell McCullough. To this union four children were born, Michele, Shaun, Greg and Kourtney. Shirley worked as an employee of First National Bank in 1967, directly out of high school. She went on to work at Evanston State Bank as a Bank Teller in 1969, then at Marquette Bank as a Bank Teller in 1971, and later retired becoming a housewife and mother. She went back to pursue her career of 13 years with CPS at South Loop School where she permanently retired again to being a housewife, mother and grandmother. She truly enjoyed working with children and rearing them in a positive manner. Shirley took pride in being a wife, mother and grandmother. She loved all of her immediate family, long distance family and all her friends. She was also a mother figure to her children's friends. She was the sweetest woman God place upon earth. She loved cooking, traveling, spending lots of money and talking on her phone. Shirley was a well dressed and manicured woman in which she took the greatest pride in. On Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 1:15 p.m., surrounded by family and loved ones, Shirley left her earthly home to receive her crown in glory. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ethel and Jessie Young; and one best friend, Gwendolyn Kelly. Shirley leaves to treasure her memories, her husband of 47 years, Mitchell McCullough; her brother, Donnell Turner from her mother, Mary Ethel Turner; along with six brothers and two sisters of Jessie Young; four children, Michele, Shaun (Geneva), Kourtney and Greg (Lisa) McCullough; twenty grandchildren, Miyaki, Miquo, Michael, Shaunnea, D'Shaun, Myelle, Tianna, Shaun Jr., Marcellus, Makiyah, Armani, Amora, Gabrielle, Mason, Greg Jr., Calvin, Cameron, Aniya, Jayden and Kayden; two best friends, Beverly Simmons and Shirley Cox; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
