May 15, 1941 - June 1, 2021
Charles Wright was born May 15, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois. Charles was a Chicago native in every sense of the word, growing up throughout the 50’s and 60’s as a vision-impaired African American. It is no wonder that Charles possessed such a high level of ‘street-savvy’. Charles boldly presented a bowling challenge to a young female workmate who he assumed would easily lose the match. He later married that challenger, and faithfully remained her husband and bowling partner for over 47 years. Along with his wife, Charles began a systematic study of the Bible with one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and progressed to dedicating his life and symbolizing this by water baptism on September 29, 1984. Charles was told by his wife, “I want to be a pioneer!” Charles faithfully supported his wife in her theocratic career as he himself progressed and served the Longwood Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses as a Ministerial Servant for more than 20 years. Over the years, many folks have learned a thing or two from Charles. He taught many a brother how to shoot pool, how to play cards and his signature technique of bowling! As caregiver to his wife, Charles continued to preach to countless nurses, doctors, and clinicians regarding Jehovah’s purpose for mankind. Despite his own health problems, he faithfully attended to his wife’s needs while regularly attending his meetings and engaging in his personal ministry. Sadly, on June 1, 2021, Charles fell asleep in death. (Heb. 6:10, Job 14:13-15) Charles leaves to cherish his memories, a host of loving spiritual brothers and sisters in the faith.
