    Mr. Emmanuel Jalen Winfrey

    June 1, 1992 - August 15, 2021

Emmanuel Jalen Winfrey was born June 1, 1992 at St. Bernard Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Affectionately known as “J Boogie” by his aunt was kind, loveable, funny, and full of personality, and did I mention stubborn as well. Emmanuel attended and graduated from Dirksen Grammar School in 2006. Jalen started his first job when he was 7 years old. He went on Sunday to work with his grandmother at the hair salon, while there he decided to get a broom and start sweeping up the hair on the floor. He did such a good job the owner hired him on. He then started getting a salary and tips from the other stylist. (He enjoyed having his own money and a job). He couldn’t wait unit he turned 16, so he could work at Subway. Jalen graduated from Thornridge High School in 2010. He also landed that job at Subway and over time, he moved up to Assistant Manager. Jalen has always been industrious and a hard worker. Later, he went on to working two jobs, Amazon and Uber. Anyone who needed assistance on the job, he would always lend a helping hand. Jalen picked up on playing cards at a very young age to which he became a master at the card game bid whist, (everyone always wanted him as their partner). He also loved playing poker and was very good at it as well. Jalen also enjoyed cooking. He loved seafood, music, swimming as a child, and was always in style hence gaining the nickname “Manny Fresh”, He loved gym shoes like his dad, particularly Jordans. Throughout his life, he always kept an upbeat and positive attitude and remained strong and resilient till the last end. Emmanuel “Jalen” was deeply loved, and he will be truly missed. Jalen’s live was filled with love and fond memories and forever will be cherished. On August 15, 2021, Emmanuel “Jalen” fell asleep in death. He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather and his grandfather.
