Gregory Gaither

A Time To Be Born Gregory Gaither was born into his earthly life on July 25, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois. He was born to Luella Boyd and John Norman. Both his mother and father preceeded him in death. A Time To Live As a young man Gregory, also known as “Sloopy,” attended Fenger High School on the Southside of Chicago. He was a member of the high school Social Club; a place where his dapper, vibrant and outgoing personality evolved. He established lifetime relationships with many friends that he met in high school. As a teenager, Gregory found Christ and was appointed as a Junior Deacon at Pilgrim Baptist Church of South Chicago. In maturity, Gregory was a self-taught skilled Journeyman Painter. He was always ready to provide service to family and friends. Those that knew him as Uncle Greg will always remember him for his resourceful skills as a “Creative Chef”; always willing and able to put together a fun and quick meal for the family. His closest family and friends can share many memories of him that would extend a lifetime. We will have lasting memories of Greg who was the favorite family babysitter of all the children, the hero of his favorite nieces and we will more fondly remember the fun-times that was shared with the Kountry Kuzzins! But without a doubt, all will agree that he loved his family, loved life, and that he took every moment to live his life, in his own way. A Time To Rise On the morning of March 11, 2020, Gregory “Sloopy - Uncle Greg” was called home to his heavenly manor into the arms of his Lord and Savior at Little Company of Mary Hospital of Evergreen Park, Illinois. Gregory was the father of Joy Gaither (Antuan Cain), the grandfather of Jayla Gaither, Jovanis Cain and Isaac Smith, and great grandfather of Kobie Milton. Also mourning his life is a list of loving family; two sisters Laverne Gaither-Jordan (Robert Jordan) and Darlene Humphrey; a surviving uncle and aunt: Ray Norman and Lena Mae Boyd; and a host of nieces/great nieces/nephews/great nephews and cousins spanning the Boyd, Gaither and Norman families, as well as many, many friends that he encountered along his walk in life. Gregory will always be remembered for his generosity, his unapologetic sense of humor and for his relentless fighting spirit. Rest Well, Greg.
