The Lord God formed man from the dust of the earth; breathed into the nostrils the breath of life, and Jerome Wayne Hughes became a living soul. Jerome Wayne Hughes was born on August 21, 1950 to the late Dorothy Mae and James Edward Hughes in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Jerome departed this life on May 5, 2018 at 12:20 pm while confined to Advocate Trinity Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his siblings: two brothers, Lonnie Hughes and Stanley Hughes; and three sisters: Pamela Hughes, Elleen Hughes and Glynis Brooks. Jerome accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Ark Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana under the direction of the late Reverend Q.T. Ellis. He graduated from McKinney High School and attended Southern University A&M in Louisiana. Soon after college, Jerome decided to move to Chicago to pursue job opportunities with the guidance of his uncle, Huey Lee Spears. For nearly 35 years, Jerome worked at Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital in environmental services then later he moved to Metro South Hospital (formerly St. Francis Hospital) until his retirement in 2010. Jerome Wayne Hughes leaves to cherish his memories: a long-time friend and fiancée, Lawanda Jean Stubblefield; his daughters: Sharika Burkes, Dailela Williams and Ellean Hughes-Stinson (Darryl); and his son: Joseph G.W. McCullough (Jasmine); his uncle, Huey Lee Spears; siblings: Sheena Brooks Dunbar (sister) and Clay Anderson (brother); his grandchildren: Damarion Williams and Dayven Williams ~ Dailela; Alanna Stinson, Aubree Stinson and Dillion Stinson ~ Ellean; Samaria McCullough, Javon Taylor and Kieran McCullough ~ Joseph; and nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and his beloved dog, Sparkie.
