Lena Antoinette Brown was born July 16, 1956, to the late Emmanuel William Brown Sr. and Mallie Mae Brown. She was a proud Chicago resident all her life and it showed. Her life began on the Westside of Chicago, where she spent her days visiting cousins, going to Mr. Collier’s, and dancing and singing especially during the warm summers. She loved sports, especially volleyball, where she was on the team at Medill Elementary School. When Lena was 13 years of age she and her family moved to the Northside of Chicago in the neighborhood of Uptown. Lena Brown is a part of a legacy where her descendants were the first African-Americans to grace the iconic block of Winthrop Ave. with their presence. Lena Brown attended and graduated from Stockton Elementary and then became a student at Senn High School where she graduated in 1974. Lena had a love for life and God. She decided to dedicate her life through water baptism and became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on February 14, 1981. She has been a dedicated servant of Jehovah for over 40 years. She started her service with the Northshore Congregation and would later attend the Riverview Congregation. Lena Brown was an avid publisher of the good news and she would share it with whoever she could. Lena always put 100% into everything she set out to do and her relationships. About 30 years ago she became employed with Ace Hardware. Her unmatched customer service, positive demeanor, and quality of work made Lena an irreplaceable asset to her company. Lena adored her family and took every opportunity to make the most of her time with them. Her favorite pastimes with her family included traveling, going to concerts, picking apples, and hosting her yearly dinners. Lena is preceded in death by her loving parents Emmanuel William Brown Sr. and Mallie Mae Brown and sister Edith Brown. Lena leaves behind, her loving daughter Amanda Walker (Donell), grandchildren Isaiah Walker, Cassie Stafford and London Walker; great-grandchildren Victoria and Kaiden Walker; brother Emmanuel William Brown Jr. (Louise); sisters Emilie Lockridge (Leland) and Donna Arndt (Jason); nieces Ebonie Ann-Marie Etherly, Ashley Brown, and Chrissy Lacny (Nate); nephews Joshua Brown, John Atterberry, Emmanuel Jason Brown, and Jonathan Lockridge (Aja); great nieces and nephews Adriyan Williams, Micah Williams, Izaiah Brown, Hannah Brown, and Elizabeth Brown; special cousin Cheryl Joy Clark; and an abundance of family and friends.
