Mr. Melvin Hall
October 4, 1942 - April 30, 2022
Melvin Hall was born October 4, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee. His mother Ida Mae Jennings and his brother Alonzo Hall preceded him in death. Melvin graduated from Lincoln High School in Ford City, Arkansas and later moved to Chicago, Illinois where he worked at the Rehabilitation Institution of Chicago for close to 20 years as a Charger Group Leader. Melvin was a man of many talents. He loved playing baseball and his favorite sport was bowling. Melvin had 3 rings to proudly show everyone he had bowled several 300-point games. Melvin also enjoyed dancing, gardening and was very good at shooting pool. From 1994 to 1995, Melvin experienced significant health challenges resulting in quadruple bypass heart surgery and amputation of both legs. Although he was only given 5 years to live, Melvin did not subscribe to pity or feeling sad for himself. He was determined to make the best of his life and did an incredible job adapting and overcoming any obstacles in his way. Melvin found a way to do just about anything anyone else could. With no legs, he mowed his lawn, trimmed his hedges, kept a meticulously clean house and car, and drove himself anywhere he wanted to go. Melvin started studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses in 1996. He was Baptized in 1998 and remained faithful until his death. Melvin fought a long and tough fight and never complained. One of the last things he said was, that “Jehovah was with him and that he was at peace”. Here it is 22 years later after doctors had only expected him to live 5 years at best. Melvin will be dearly missed, and if he were here, he would send you off saying, "IF YOU CAN'T BE GOOD, BE CAREFUL!” Thanks to Carol Thomas a special friend of 41 years and Caretaker; Rena (Brian) Grimes, Ashley Almazan, Ashia “Angel” Johnson and Michael “Mikie” Johnson for keeping a smile on Melvin's face; Dr. Daniel Montalvo, MD his Physician; Mary Szutza his Aide; and Brother Samuel Overstreet who was always there for Melvin. Special thanks to family, friends and all in attendance and remember as Melvin did, "With Jehovah All Things Are Possible!”
