    Mrs. Theza Powell

    December 30, 1942 - March 14, 2022

Theza Joy Powell was born on December 30th, 1942, to the union of Herman & Mary Powers in Chicago, Illinois. Theza was their pride and joy!   From a very young age, Theza was taught the truth of God’s word by her mother, Mary and took it to heart, all of her life!   Theza attended Gillespie Grade School until her eighth grade graduation. She then attended John Marshall Harlan High School and got excellent grades. She also attended city colleges with the thought of her secular education after her graduation.   Theza loved what she learned from the Bible the most, because she learned that this life is NOT all there is. She learned that when man was created and fell into sin, she could still have a very good relationship with Jehovah God as long as she did things HIS way. This wasn’t difficult for her, because she was always a mild-mannered person, and she loved people. Theza got baptized in July, 1958 with the mindset of going into the ‘full-time ministry’. This way she would spend even more time talking to people about what the Bible Really Teaches.     So now you wonder…where does Phillip come in? From what we know, Phillip met Theza at the tender age of 3 years old. Phillip’s mother, Annie and Theza’s mother, Mary became good friends in Altgeld Gardens, both serving Jehovah, in the early 1950’s. Also, later on Phillip’s sister, Emma and Theza served where the need was great for many, many years.  Upon returning from serving, Theza took another look at Phillip!   About six months after Phillip & Theza married, they served together in rural Tennessee! They really got their marriage off to a good start, serving Jehovah together as a newly married couple!   In August, 1984, they welcomed Phillip Randolph Powell. He was definitely the light of Theza’s life!   On March 14, 2022, Theza fell asleep in death. Theza was preceded in death by her middle brother, William (Billy) Powers and her loving mother, Mary Powers.   Theza leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Phillip Sr.; her loving son, Phillip Jr. (Randy); her father, Herman Powers Sr.; her brother, Herman Jr. (Peggy); her brother, Jerry Sr. (Rhonda); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friend.   Theza was definitely a good wife, mother, daughter, sister-in-law, and friend! She will definitely be missed for now, but we look forward to seeing her again, when Jehovah intervenes into man’s affairs and ‘makes all things new’.
