Archie Fisher

On April 1, 1938, Archie Revawn Fisher was born to Alexander and Janette Fisher in Fairfield, South Carolina. He was the seventh child out of thirteen. His siblings are: Earnestine, Walter, Rosa, Voyd, Addie, Myrtle, Sylena, Lois, Grover, Mildred, James, and Omingo. Most would agree Archie was neat and always aimed high. He attended Finley High School in Chester, SC. From there, he convinced his sister, Rosa to give consent for him to join the Armed Forces in 1956. It was there he completed his education. Archie’s desire for knowledge of God’s word led him to begin a study of the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. His Bible study conductor was Leonard Waters. Over the years, the two became such close friends that he and Leonard became like family to one another. As their Bible discussions continued, Leonard’s visits to the nursing home always included a discussion of life in God’s new world. While in the military, Archie became a paratrooper in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He proudly informed everyone he was part of the 82nd Airborne Division for four years. Later Archie was sent to Germany where he learned the language and served as a military policeman. During this time, born to him were: Archie Davis, Sandra Robinson, Robert Chalk, Wanda McFadden and Archie Fisher Jr. After serving this time and receiving an honorable discharge, Archie went on to form a singing group and performed at WSOC TV Station. It was in 1963 that Archie relocated to Chicago to pursue his singing career. He sang at the Blue Flamingo and other night clubs in the Chicagoland area. He then raised his two daughters, Renee Davidson and April Fisher. Archie felt the need to have a steady source of income and sought employment at Vulcan Can Company. He later landed a position at American Can Company and quickly advanced in the company. Because of his ability to learn quickly, he was trained as a mechanic where he proved himself and excelled. After 25 years of service, Archie retired in 1992. Archie finished out his days enjoying life. He loved music, taking pictures, laughter and people. He was famous for his quotes such as: “Business first bull-crap second”, “You can do bad all by yourself”, “God bless the child that has his own”, “I don’t care what you do, be the best at it”, “It’s not how much you make it’s what you do with it” and lastly, “One day at a time”. On June 4, 2014 Archie Fisher fell asleep in death. He was preceded in death by six siblings, Earnestine, Walter, Grover, Mildred, James and Omingo; and two children, Wanda McFadden and Archie Fisher Jr. In the words of Archie Revawn Fisher: “I’ve lived a good life baby.” Archie leaves to cherish his loving memories, his siblings, Rosa Luallean, Voyd (Helen) Fisher, Addie Sanders, Mrytle Craig, Sylena (Frank) Quiller and Lois Ramsey; his children, Archie Davis, Sandra (Isaiah) Robinson, Robert (Loretta) Chalk, Renee (Anton) Davidson and April Fisher (special son, Carl Smith); thirteen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and close family members who will forever miss him.
