Beverly Lee Whitehead

Beverly Lee Campbell Whitehead was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 10, 1937 to the union of Curtis and Juanita Campbell. Beverly had three siblings, Bishop "Bish", Julius "Jack" and Pauline. Bev, as she was affectionately known, attended and graduated from Fenger High School. Bev accepted Christ at an early age and attended church regularly until her declining health prevailed. Bev also enjoyed socializing with her friends and most especially her fellow members of The Exquisite Ladies Club. She loved life, loved to laugh and was known as an outgoing, fun-loving, kind and generous person. Beverly met and fell in love with a kindred spirit, Talmadge "Whitey" Whitehead, who she married on December 5, 1967. Bev and Whitey had two daughters, Debra Denise and Lisa Marie. Bev and Whitey worked hard to make sure that their children had the best childhood and life they could give them. When Whitey made his transition in 1988, after a brief illness, Bev was determined that her children would do well in life and never stopped encouraging them and providing opportunities for them to excel. Beverly worked at Time - Life Corporation for many years, retiring from the company in 1985 once the corporation moved from Chicago. She then went to work for the City of Chicago in the Human Resources field. During this time, she was also the main caregiver for her father, Curtis and moved him into her house, when he could no longer live alone. She dutifully and lovingly cared for him until his transition in 1999. Beverly loved the Lord and her church. At More Like Christ Christian Fellowship Church, Bev thoroughly enjoyed serving on the usher board and participating in various other church ministries. She was a loyal, dedicated and committed church member. Bev's children and grandchildren were her passion and delight. They were the loves of her life and the light of her world. She was a grandmother who thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to baby-sitting and nurturing her grandchildren. Beverly Whitehead peacefully reunited with her parents, her siblings, and her husband on the evening of Thursday, April 4, 2013. Bev leaves to celebrate her life, her two daughters, Debra and Lisa; grandchildren, Talmadge, Darvin, Khalil and Kyler; nieces, Patricia (Harry), Sue (Linton) and JoAnn; nephews, Donnie, Kenneth (Rosetta) and Gregory (Yvette); sisters-in-law, Sarah and Jean; Godson, Quron; and a host of loving family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
