Joyce Blondell Robinson

Joyce Blondell Lucas was born in Jackson, Mississippi on October 6, 1936 to James and Helen Lucas. She was one of six children. The family moved to Gary, Indiana where Joyce received her formal education graduating from Calumet Township High School in May of 1956. Joyce played basketball and softball in high school. She continued her education by attending Provident Medical School of Radiology in Chicago, Illinois. Joyce was employed by Mt. Sinai and Mercy Hospitals and Century Labs as a Portable X-Ray Technician for nursing homes. Joyce married Bill Robinson and their union was blessed with 3 children. Joyce and Bill traveled the world going everywhere, Jamaica, Hawaii, Spain, Africa and 15 states in the United States. She would often ride on the back of husband Bill's 1500 Goldwing motorcycle. Her intense love of God led her to study the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses, dedicate her life to Jehovah and symbolize that dedication through water baptism on July 30, 1960. She immediately began to preach to everyone. She was able to assist her sisters Helen Wilson, Barbra Akins and Clovis Frazier to become Jehovah's Witnesses, as well as many others over the course of her 30 years of Regular Pioneer Service. Joyce’s zeal for the ministry helped a young x-ray technician who studied the Bible with her to want to get baptized after one month. She was always present at the meetings and her comments reflected her heartfelt study of the Bible and love for Jehovah. Joyce had many adopted spiritual children S. Beauregard, Donnis Brown, Velda Thomas, Kevin Cross, Glenn Cross, Clarence Cross, Eric Cross, Iris Cross, Lisa Cross, Willie Neal, and Sammy Neal. Joyce enjoyed trees, nature and animals. She was an avid bird watcher and loved dogs, horses and cats. On March 5, 2014, Joyce Blondell Robinson, fell asleep in death. Her family looks forward to welcoming her back to a paradise earth where no resident will say I am sick. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents James and Helen, siblings Hiawatha Lucas, Barbra Atkins and Helen Wilson. Joyce leaves to cherish her memories, her faithful and dedicated husband of 55 years, William; children, Kim Brown, William Robinson III and Larcellia Carter; grandchildren, Basia Brown, Riley Robinson and Bailey Robinson; great grandchildren, Jade Brown and Daneja Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
